Hello wiki users:
I am the new Wiki Specialist (aka “the Wiki-Wrangler”) and I have been spending time categorizing our wiki pages on the Commons. To facilitate this effort, we made three small changes that should make accessing wiki pages easier.
We added the “Categories” option on the Sidebar, under the Navigation Tab. Clicking on this will take the user to a page that shows all subcategories of our main Category:All in alphabetical order.
To encourage tagging and folksonomy, we added an input box at the bottom of each page that allows contributors to easily add tags. Here is a screenshot showing the Add Tag box as it now appears, directly under the “Authors” section:
We will soon have a tag cloud that allows easy access to categories. We hope to put it on the sidebar, but work is still in progress. For now, you can see a working prototype at https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/wiki/index.php/Front_Page
Here’s a screenshot:
Important Note: For a new tag (or category) to appear in the cloud, the tag itself needs to be tagged under our Main Category – “All”. Click on the new tag, scroll to the bottom of the page, and enter “All” and click “Add Tag”. Hope this makes sense.
Drop me a message if you have any questions.
This is great news — thanks Scott!
Looks great, Scott – can’t wait to play around with this!
Great work, Scott. I’m especially excited about the possibility that the easy-to-use “Add Tag” box will add to the wiki.
